GENETICS: TOUR OF THE BASICS

CLICK HERE to find out about DNA, genes, chromosomes, proteins, heredity, and traits.
1. Why do most offsrping tend to be a blend of the characteristics of both parents?
2. why do we say that genes come in pairs?
3. How do we get traits from our parents?

  1. 1. Because for each genotype and phenotype there many genes each gene is made of/ has 2 alleles 1 from the mom 1 from the dad they transmit information from there DNA to the offspring so the offspring will have features or dominant genes from the mom and dad.

    2. We say that genes come in pairs because the 1 allele from your mom and the one allele from our dad that are for the same trait meet up and pair together.

    3. We get traits from our parents because the allele we get from each parent has DNA that carry their traits which when are dominant can be seen in the offspring.

Most offspring tend to be a blend of the characteristics of both parents because since each gene has two alleles, you acquire one allele from each parent and, depending on the dominance and genotype, you will be a mix of what your parents look like.
    2. Why do we say that genes come in pairs?
We say that genes come in pairs because the two alleles from each parent pair up together.
    3. How do we get traits from our parents?
How we get traits from our parents is the alleles we receive from them contain their genetic information, or DNA, and these genotypes pass then and, through your phenotype, you can see the traits you share with your parents.

  3. 1.since each parent gives away one allele, the child gets two alleles.
2.given that both parents give you 1 allele from each parent, you end up with 2 (a pair).
3.our parents paas down traits through alleles that code for that specific trait.

  4. 1. offspring tend to have characteristics of both parents because we get DNA, and traits, from each parent.

    2. people say genes come in pairs because each of your parents has 1 of the same gene, and if each of your parents has one, that's 2, and that's a pair

    3. traits are in the form of DNA, and chromosomes are wrapped up pieces of DNa, and since we get chromosomes from each parent, we're getting traits from each parent

  5. what determines whether the traits will be inherited by codominence or incomplete dominence?
